Yes, I understand the logic but since I have only one machine I would=20
have expected
the Set Network Address command  in the boot file to be unnecessary=20
(after all, I could very well be
totally disconnected from all possible networks!)
Nevertheless  I cannot boot the machine when I do not issue explicitly=20
this command
"Set Network Address an-internet-number" with a number matching the=20
namespace descriptor.

This sounds perfectly reasonable... but it happens that I have spent=20
countless hours,
years ago, to load many symbolic packages into my own "complete world".
In many cases  (like those of Joshua,  Concordia or Plexi or...) the=20
installation
was rather difficult, in the sense that many of the paths expected by=20
the installation program
were not existing, mayne they were not made for a Mac Ivory
and I had to do many fixes, by hand. I have of course completely=20
forgotten now
how I managed to do it, but I remember that it took a long time.
Therefore I hate the idea of doing that again. It is true that I do not=20
use all these programs very often,
and I could be happy without loading all of them again (or using them),=20
but... when you are in a museum, you
like to see the paintings on display... and are not fully satisfied if=20
you just know that they are safelty stored in the basement!
This is the reason why would like to use my perfectly working "complete=20
world", and just change the ethernet address.
After all, rather than bringing my machine at home, I could, as well,=20
have moved to another institute, with a different
IP address.  I understand that it would then be also logic to create a=20
totally new namespace and site, but
would it be also necessary to start again from the Distribution-World=20
and rebuild all my favorite worlds ?
This looks strange to me. Isn't there a way out ?

Well...You are not.
However to tell you the truth, I am no longer using it as much as I was
using it in the past. Actually, at some point in the past,  I was=20
dreaming of
establishing a communication by RPC  between Macsyma running under=20
Genera
and some other math program (like Mathematica) running on the Mac side=20
of
my MacII-FX host, but I finally  gave up, mostly because my MacII=20
became obsolete, from the
Apple point of view, and since nobody seemed to be able to  install an=20
Ivory processor on the newer machines.
This is sad.

I did.
I got the release 416.15 about  nine years ago from Symbolics France.=20
Yes... It existed at that time!
This was actally an upgrade of my previous version of Macsyma.

Symbolics ? You mean Symbolics Inc or Macsyma Inc ?
I have no idea where to contact Symbolics Inc !
I though it had disappeared...
