I guess what's chicken-related is how the http/tls modules deal with the 
failure and how they don't retry.

Peter Bex suggested that it might have something to do with how intarweb 
and/or http-client handle keep-alive connections. I'm testing with 
(max-idle-connections 0) now and so far it's working fine - 12 hours in.
