The Python Cookbook is not a wiki, per se, but is a collaborative environment. They do require login. One side effect is that the recipes do indicate ownership. It was not straightforward to get the book ready for pre-press; I'll quote from the preface: "Going from the online version to the version you have in front of you was a fairly complex process. The data was first extracted from Zope and converted into XML. We then categorized the recipes and selected those recipes that seemed most valuable, distinctive, and original. Then it was just a matter of editing the recipes to fit the format of the cookbook, checking the code for correctness (the PyChecker tool deserves special thanks, as it was quite useful in this regard), adding a few recipes here and there for completeness of coverage in some areas, and doing a final copy-editing pass. It sounds simple when you write it down in one paragraph. Somehow, we don't remember it as quite as being simple as that!" For my part, I'll be very happy if the online (PLT) Scheme Cookbook is as complete as the print version of the Python Cookbook, even if it never makes it to print. -- Gordon Weakliem http://www.eighty-twenty.net -----Original Message from MJ Ray <[email protected]>----- On 2004-04-07 13:02:55 +0100 Noel Welsh <noelwelsh-/[email protected]> wrote: > [bluedonkey...] It also appears there is one main > author for their books so they don't have the > coordination problems we face.
