To do so requires messing around with the forum setup.
 You said it yourself:

"I hate using the web site, as I see "sourceforge is
currently down for maintenance" far too often."

Add

"Even if we were emailed the forum posts, we'd still
have to reply in the forum if we don't want to look
like a bunch of loser who never respond to forum
posts."

and

"I find the interface to the web site so slow and
cumbersome I'd rather not use it"

Ok, I can see that point. I'm still not sure that
plt-scheme, for example, really needs a big long
discussion about changes in the SchemeUnit API for
example. I'm remaining neutral on the issue.

So my justification for schematics-users is:

If we nuke the forums (I have done so) there needs to
be an official Schematics controlled place for support
requests to replace the forums.

By having user requests go to schematics-users they
will end up in my mailbox and so be brought to our
attention, rather than me having to go hunt them down
(c.l.s. or SF forums)

I really don't mind if people post to plt-scheme or
c.l.s. as I'll probably see the post (I don't read
c.l.s. every day) but I want to catch the other people
who were slipping through the cracks.
