With PLaneT there certainly isn't the need for Schematics that there was beforehand.  I still think it has the following roles:

  - It provides a public svn account, allowing collaboration, without requiring you register your own Sourceforge project, or setup your own repository

  - It provides a modicum of publicity

  - It provides a generic name, schematics, for projects, allowing easier change of ownership.  (This is a minor annoyance with PLaneT.  I think you'll still find typed-scheme listed under two owners: cce and plt [I might have got the names wrong -- I've haven't checked them])
