Thanks for the tip here, that's definitely a more sanitary way to do the patch. I just checked and HAVE_PTHREAD_H is properly set on the hurd porterbox I have access to. The version of the patch with the conditional inclusion is here and builds fine: http://alioth.debian.org/~dmoerner-guest/hurd-i386-fix-ftbfs.diff If you do decide to apply these patches, drop me a line and I'll build a tarball from your hg sources and test to make sure it's all working properly (since I presume you aren't currently testing on the hurd!)
