Re: Postscript, pdf

I'm currently using xls -> fig with a code original from B. Walter
that I keep extending according my needs. The main problem is that xls
windows does'nt have information enough to make a high quality graphical
output. For example, text is not saved in any standard slot and has no
properties like font, size... I save text in a special slot and use it to
display on the screen (only one font available) and to export it in a
richer way. Other people do similar tricks (Steven?) but there is no
standard for it. Polygons, arrows, axis, have similar problems.

fig is a format very popular in unix. Files can be edited using xfig, als=
o
available under Windoze through a java application.

fig files can be translated to many formats, including ps and pdf, using
fig2dev, a filter originated in unix and also available in Windoze.

xls-to-gunplot was another attempt written by Jan and myself. Gnuplot can
be used to produce ps output. But this doesn't deal with text labels at
all.

Anyway, any of these methods are quite tricky and probably need
customization for your own needs (how do you store the text? Just in the
:redraw-content? If so, it's dificult to export them!)
