Hi all,

I would like to bring in a further aspect to the XLisp-Stat discussion. I am
not a statistics worker, I'm developing system simulators (e.g. for
satellite simulation).

It may be that R is the more modern tool for statistics, but XLisp-Stat is
besides its statistics functions an excellent Lisp system, available on all
platforms and providing also excellent graphics functions and....all for
free!!

I (mis)-used it some time ago to build an expert diagnosing system (case-
and rule-based) coupled to a system simulator for

- acquiring system behavior knowledge in the design phases of a system and

- to couple the expert system later with the real system in operation

- to make the expert system survey system operation and diagnose errors in
operation.

So even if XLisp-Stat might be left for R in the area of statistics, please
give it a chance to survive as "nice" pure Lisp system for non-statistic
users.

Perhaps it also is interesting for Luke's new colleagues at Iowa in the area
of artificial intelligence like it was - and is for me.

Kindest regards

Jens Eickhoff
