Re: xls

I think a more immediate way to show that XLS is alive is to
submit papers (manuals) to the Journal of Statistical Software.
This gets widely advertised. I could even be persuaded to
consider a special issue with the tentative title "XLISP-STAT
is not dead". Just need a guest editor. http:;//www.jstatsoft.org

As for XLS in Objective C, I am afraid is too late for me. It does
not matter if we like it or not, but R/S is now the lingua franca
of statistics,  as Matlab is for engineering. R is developed at a
very rapid pace, at it continues to grow in capabilities, in
available add-on packages, and in supporting code.

Without knowing too much about the internals, I think R feels
like somewhat of a hack, maintained by a committee. And
we all know about committees. R fell into prominence by a
severe lack of competition. I sure did not vote for it. But is is
all we have.

It would have been so much better (for me) if R had just been
a module in some Lisp system, or even in Python, but no,
we had to make our own language to be able to reinvent a
long line of wheels.
