Re: xls workshop?

Well, it looks like we have three tasks:

1. Organizing the workshop.
2. The special issue of the JSE
3. Setting up back the xlisp.org domain

I would say that the different tasks might be carried by different people 
so that the workload would not be too concentrated. I have already 
volunteered for number 1 but I think this could be decided later, depending 
on the geographical situation of the people interested on attending in 
order to keep costs lower as possible. It would be useful to have a first 
expression of interest of people interested on the workshop so we might see 
if it is is really worth of the effort.
On the other hand, the special issue of the JSE is an offer that we can not 
turn down. Again, I would volunteer for doing the work, preferably with 
somebody else. The issue might include descriptions of actual work carried 
out with xlisp-stat but it would be nice to devote some papers about 
general computational statistics matters.
About the xlisp.org, I would suggest a new approach to the site. This 
suggestion stems from my experiences with the code in this site. When I 
download something and try to run it, it is very usual that I can not get 
anything sensible happening. The problem is that every piece of code seems 
to be reinvent basic issues such as data formats, opening files, etc. I 
think that a good project would be to create workspaces that would include 
as much of this code already loaded and to specify a minimum set of 
conventions so that playing with a new piece of software was made easy. 
This could be the subject of a paper. Another approach, of course, would be 
to take advantage of the two big projects in xlisp-stat (Arc and ViSta) and 
use the framework they provide.
