These failures go away if I'm running just a single sbcl process instead of two. It occurs when two are run in parallel, These are being run under emacs using slime. So I have a suspicion this has something to do with a race condition somewhere with the multiple threads. I'm going to try to load down two processes doing some dummy computation and I/O similar to what the random tester sends out to see if that can reproduce the issue.
