(Eventually I figured out the tty trigger independently as well, only ~2 hours after you had posted the solution... You guys are just too fast.)

One thing that contributed to misleading me to believe the build to be known-broken was the redirect to ppc 32bit; by now I understand it is clear that this is rather due to backwards-compatibility considerations and/or popular preference than reservations about ppc64be support.

(And it doesn't matter now, but the alternative approach of earlier foreign-reinit was considered but rejected at the time of investigation.)

I'll try to follow your suggestions for the upcoming work.
