Right but I am responding to the notion that a C library solves anything
about backtracing from Lisp. It's not for lack of knowing the call chain
that printing crashed. And backtrace from C will be
less-than-maximally-useful regardless of whether it's a library or
hand-rolled.  To me the advantage of the C backtrace is exactly that it
does not try to print arguments, meaning it won't recursively crash.
