Causes for araneida to hang?

Are there any common conditions that can cause araneida to become totally
unresponsive and hang, as opposed to just signaling a condition and dumping a
backtrace?

I'm trying to figure out why my app server stops responding w/o warning, with
no obvious causes in the stack trace.
