My function here... ;-)

I *finally* found my function here...
I signed one message "In Awe" - and Charles asked me why. The answer is
that in the initial flurry of messages to the list, I had experienced a
"Mach 2 Flyby" - a.k.a. 40% of the info in the messages was *way* over my
head. :-O
I'm just a simple backwoods sysadmin/programmer - I've never designed or
even helped design a protocol before -- hell, getting Perl to open sockets
gives me fits. {I've done it so rarely}. RFC's are not what I'd call light
reading... The only RFC I've read end-to-end is TCP/CP {TCP via Carrier
Pigeon... ;-) }
So -- I'm the self-proclaimed "Bikini Village Idiot!" ;-) [1]
Now that I have a few hours to tinker (very few... I had 2 days off last
month) I'm going to install Bikini on 2 different machines straight from
the READMEs and fix anything, no matter how simple, that might need
improvement. I have one *very* plain LWQ qmail install which will be my
"barebones testbed."
I have found a couple of small changes to fix - I'll submit diffs tomorrow
- but I have one big question: In the sample /service/bikini/run file, the
first 2 lines are:
service=pop3d
. /usr/lib/qmail/run-functions
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
What *is* that file? It's not on either of my LWQ installs, the docs don't
mention it, and I don't know if it's crucial to the running of bikini, so I
haven't yanked it out yet (I will tonite if I have time & report back).
Anywho, I'm about 1/3 thru my O'Reilly PHP book I got last week, so by the
end of the week, I'll prolly have a Python book on order - I just don't
think I can get thru much here without one... Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Roger "Merch" Merchberger
[1] That said, I'm really not an idiot - I can program in almost 20
languages {most of 'em dead, /of course/} and troubleshooting is one of the
few things I still truly enjoy WRT to computers.
