Since the error sounds more like O/S message than Blat, can you try with command line prompt which does not have ">" in it - the "device" could be seen here as whatever is on the RHS of ">".

As shown in the help text, the '-install' command is as follows:
blat -install SERVER_NAME YOUR_EMAIL_ADDRESS
Replace SERVER_NAME with the name of the server, and YOUR_EMAIL_ADDRESS with the address you want to send as. There are no other options used with this command, and it is used to set defaults.
When I run my .bat file from the actual file that has the Blat exe.

Failed to open registry key for Blat
To set the SMTP server's name/address and your username/email address for that
server machine do:
bla t -install server_name your_email_address
or use '-server <server_name>' and '-f <your_email_address>'
aborting, nothing sent
This error is coming up because you have the command right, but the registry does not have information about the server you want to use, nor your email address entered into it; this is done with the --install parameter listed earlier. Once that is saved, this command should work. Alternatively, modify your command to include the '-server SERVER_NAME' and '-f YOUR_EMAIL_ADDRESS' parameters, again replacing SERVER_NAME and YOUR_EMAIL_ADDRESS with the appropriate data.
When I try and run the same script from the original folder it w as in

'blat' is not recognized as an internal or external co mmand,
This is simply because Windows cannot find BLAT.EXE; it is not in the Windows search path, so it cannot be found. You can either add the folder where BLAT.EXE is into the PATH environment variable (google 'set windows environment variable' for instructions) or make the call using the full path to BLAT, eg:
"R:\BLAT262\FULL\BLAT D:\POS\Retail\Rpro\print\nightlypolling.txt -to [email protected] mailto:[email protected] -cc [email protected] mailto:[email protected] -Subject "nightly polling"
either with the '-f YOUR_EMAIL_ADDRESS' and '-server SERVER_NAME' fields added to the end, or after you have used the 'BLAT -install......' command from above.
