Hi

Gmail needs SSL. Blat does not provide that. So pipe it through a utility like stunnel. If using stunnel (search web for stunnel if needed), the entry in configuration for gmail should be similar to (copied from an old support email):

SMTP Gmail]
accept = 127.0.0.1:1099
connect = smtp.gmail.com:465
[POP3 Gmail]
accept = 127.0.0.1:1109
connect = pop.gmail.com:995

465 is the port at which gmail listens for receiving on SMTP. And 995 is the port at which it listens for email retrieval using POP3 - is using. These two ports are fixed by gmail so you cannot change then, unless gmail changes them.

In this example it is assumed that your blat is sending email to localhost (same computer as on which stunnel is installed) at port 1099 (to be caught by stunnel and further processed) and your email program (also installed on same computer) is talking to port 1109 (of stunnel) for retrieving email from gmail.

Subject: [blat] How to make BLAT work with GMAIL

  I have several user sites that are now using GMAIL instead of a "normal" ISP. Apparently, BLAT will not work with GMAIL. Is this true? Is there a way to force it to work? Thanks.
