I would guess that when you are connected to your LAN, you have a static IP on your internet connection, and the mail server admins have added your IP to the Relay Whitelist so you can send out emails. When you connect directly to the internet, bypassing your LAN, you will get a different IP, and this will most likely be a dynamic address and you will not be able to send emails.
This is a difficult situation to address but you should talk to your mail server admins to see what they can do.

Both error 10060 and 183 and SMTP server errors related to that server
blocking 'relaying' of email. It's not a blat issue. To confirm this,
try sending an email to the same server from your email client. You
should get the same errors, or at least not be able to send.
