Hi Chip,
I am using –tf and a text file that is suppose to hold up 35 recipients and to send out or broadcast an automatically generated volcano crisis alerts based on seismic amplitude information. But in practice so far, the file has been configured for 10 recipients only. It works fine with 10 recipients but sometimes its slow. I still have to test the system with 35-40 email recipients.
Below is the alert text message in the email;
THIS IS AN AUTOMATICALLY GENERATED RSAM ALERT.
VERIFY ALERT WITH RABAUL VOLCANO OBSERVATORY.
VOLCANO: MANAM (4.078 deg S, 145.036 deg E).

A jpg file is attached to the email.
In the event I had 35-40 recipients in the recipients file and sending the email was slow, would it be easier to have 2-3 blat commands or it would not make any difference.
And would your version of blat that is on hold address such issues or this something completely different?

I wish.
As a developer long in the tooth, I know there are other ways to achieve an outcome, and some are better than others.
Besides, there is the possibility of implementing SSL/TLS support directly into Blat rather than relying on third party solutions such as Stunnel. One area of concern there is that I would have to keep on top of security problems with SSL/TLS in case those problems have an impact on Blat. As it is, there are good folks who maintain OpenSSL and Stunnel for these issues that come up from time to time, and I just use their updates.
I do have a version on hold that can send multiple emails at the same time by utilizing multithreading, I have not seen any request for this kind of enhancement. I also do not know what kind of impact this may have on users and their ISPs, whether positive or negative.
