I use postfix as MTA > along with MailScanner and Dovecot as POP3 and IMAP server The important piece here is the MDA, that is, the piece of software which actually puts the mail into the box. Depending on your configuration it's Postfix itself, or Dovecot's deliver or even a third-party package (e.g. Procmail). It is this program which decides to which box the mail goes (depending on the message, and among other things on the headers added by the spam filter). In my case, for example, I use procmail by having the following in my .forward file (in my home dir) | exec /usr/bin/procmail Postfix sees that when trying to deliver a mail to me and passes the mail to procmail. This program classifies the mail according to whatever rules I give to it into different mailboxes. Which MDA are you using?
