You do not state which version of CommuniGate you are running, but you should be able to at least send the mail to AOL by entering: !aol.com in the Settings->Mail->SMTP->Sending->"Send Encrypted (SSL/TLS) to Domains" field. It wouldn't be encrypted, but it would get sent.
