Changing the default message editor?

Is it possible to change cone's default message editor to something other than 'leaf'? I prefer to not have to type Ctrl-U every time I want to compose a message using my favorite text editor; rather, I'd like my preferred editor to become the default instead of 'leaf'. Is this possible? If so, how?
