Hi, there,

I just discovered the macro feature instead of inserting text files into
mails. I created our company's mail footer as a macro called "(dot)sig".

This footer contains umlauts and just after adding the macro to cone, I was
able to use it just fine. But after closing down cone and starting it
somewhat later, I discovered that the umlauts got replaced by hexadecimal
entities. Closing it another time and re-opening, every entity in the
macros file was replaced by two entities.

This looks like this:

Original word: "Grüße" (German for "greetings")

Just after quitting cone, the macros file looked like this:

"Grü&#DF;e" (which is correct as U+00FC = "ü" and U+00DF = "ß")

Now after opening cone, entering the master pwd and directly quitting it,
you'll find this:

"Grüße"

0xC3 0xBC = UTF-8 encoding for U+00FC
0xC3 0x9F = UTF-8 encoding for U+00DF

Doing another cycle, I get:

"Grüße"

Just a guess: 0xC3 0x83 = UTF-8 for U+00C3 … and so on

So it looks like the "entitification" doesn't know Unicode.

I just compiled the 0.78 and found the same behavior.

Could this be fixed some day as I really like cone?

Best regards,

 Markus Birth
