Asked the mantainer, but his configure line did not help.. :-/
That's really curious because the deb package gets built in the debian 
packaging system.
In the end ln -s /usr/include/ncursesw/curses.h /usr/include/curses.h fixed the problem. 

This shouldn't be a problem on RedHat systems.

I'm now writing from that devel snapshot, cheers!
