This line
maildir_use_size_file = true (+ the needed mysql lines in the exim4.conf ... see in the vexim-2.2.1.tar.gz)
and for example thunderbird display quota plugin shows the exact user quota number. Thanx.

I don't know how the interaction between Exim and courier-imap would
yield the quota value, but I have used
maildir_use_size_file = true
to get the quota read from the size of the Maildir.
