I've done some testing with my setup, and found a few issues.

Initially I couldn't add new domains, either local, relay or alias and 
tracked the problem back to not having a GID set up for vexim.

The errors were rather vague although I couldn't make my setup give all 
the notice errors you had.

Something you need to check is that you have both a user and a group 
defined for vexim.

In my case I have a system user called vexim with a UID of 90 and a 
system group called vexim with a GID of 90, where the vexim user has a 
primary GID of 90 and a secondary GID of 26 (mailnull).

Let me know if this fixes the problem
