I was going to ask almost exactly the same question.

It would be great if someone who's an active exmh user could look into what 
gaps mailutils-mh has to keep it from supporting exmh.  I don't have the 
resources to look into it unfortunately.  It sounds like the mh-e folks have 
had a good interaction with the mailutils-mh folks.

I know many of us would love to be able to run exmh on top of imap and this 
looks like just the way to get there!
