I suspect this has to do with the new sequence-related code in 2.6.
There were other performance bugs that I resolved by 2.6.3,
but I will admit I see excessive CPU consumption during removes.

I can't say I'll have time to dig into this anytime soon, but
I appreciate the nudge.  I'll cc exmh-workers and see if others
have opinions or have been observing this.
