That correlates with what I discovered whilst realising I caused the
problem myself by not setting that mime(dir) variable when I installed 2.7
- - the problem actually had nothing to do with metamail at all, which I had
disabled long before. What started me down the metamail track, though, was
the error produced:
"error "Metamail required to quote/encode text""
(procedure "SeditFixupEncoding" line 9)
invoked from within
"SeditFixupEncoding $draft $t [expr ($sedit($t,quote) > 0)]"
etc. etc.
Would it be worth changing that error message to "Mimencode required to
quote/encode text". I would have realised my error immediately were that
to have been displayed. As well, perhaps renaming the installGuessDir for
MIMEbinaries? That is currently:
install_dirVar mime(dir) [installGuessDir /usr/local/bin metamail]
{Metamail bin directory}
After earlier disabling metamail, upon installing 2.7 it was only a natural
thing (I thought) to remove its directory path, not realising that it was
needed for mimencode to function. Of course, if the code is replaced then
all of this can be removed anyway, I guess.

Not on cursory inspection, so we should be ok there :) I have indeed done
what you say - metamail is disabled and I corrected the path.
