but I have since found an issue.  I wouldn't describe it as *horribly*
broken, just mildly broken.  :-)

The issue is that when I start exmh, if I have N folders with unseen
messages in them, the first one gets ignored when the unseen (or, more
generally, sequences) get tabulated.  Once I click on the folder, or a
new message happens to arrive in that folder, then the unseen column in
the Sequences window gets updated properly...
