I'm sure it's not a window manager issue - it transcends every manager
I've used, from twm through fvwm to kde and blackbox.

Thanks, this was highly entertaining. I'm heartened by Brent's comment:

Fine words. I wish I could help with that, but If there's a bright centre
in the programmer universe I'm about the farthest thing from it (apologies
to George Lucas).  It's not all bad, however - that nasty bug that stopped
pasting into tcl dialogs a while back (2.2 era?) and which I made a really
hacky patch for has been fixed for some time now. IIRC, it was a tcl user
path override issue.
