broken HTTP link repair script?

Has anyone already written a script or program which will repair the 
seemingly endless stream of broken links coming to me courtesy of 
Microsoft email programs?  MS had a patch for this problem many years 
ago.  Evidently it never made it into future, as in today's, 
program(s).  Links are broken into multiple lines if deemed too long, 
although I don't know how long is too long.  To fix this I edit each 
message and remove the linebreaks, if I care about a link enough to 
do that.  If you've already got a script that does this, I'd like to 
get a copy.
