I am also seeing exmh 2.7.2. hangs, probably around fonts as well.

I don't get X server hangs, but I do get exmh hanging, without apparent
CPU usage, for many minutes (I don't know if it would eventually
recover).  I have to kill exmh, truncate the offending message to zero
size with "> Mail/..." and restart exmh.  It only happens in
MIME-encoded messages and repeats on a given problem message.  This
unreliability makes exmh unsuitable for me to recommend to anyone else
now. 

Any other solution ideas?
