You can certainly make the MTA do that, but if you do, your
choices are generally pretty limited (that is, you only ever
get to use the domain name the MTA likes - or perhaps only
sub-domains of your MTA's favourite domain are all that ever
get "corrected").

For me, I simply set the From: header the way I want it in my
various components files (components, replcomps distcomps forwcomps)
if you copy those files from the "standard place" into your MAILDIR
($HOME/Mail or whatever you have it set to - `mhpath +` should tell you)
you can edit them to be whatever takes your fancy, and even add new
ones.

For various reasons, I use a bunch of different From: headers, and have
components files created already for the most common of them (for the
others, I just edit the From: line in the template message).
