sedit charsets.. how to use french characters (on MacOSX)?

Hi,

still in the process of migrating exmh from Linux to MacOSX, I have hit
a new subtlety concerning editing messages with accented characters in
Sedit.

When I switch keyboard layout from US to French, accented characters
only produce garbage in the sedit window (if anything happens at all).
Interestingly, if I use the alternate editor (vi in my case) the
characters appear correctly. Switching back to Sedit they are also
displayed correctly.

So it seems to me that the problem may lie in the way sedit (?tcl?)
interprets the keycodes for accented characters issued by MacOSX. Is
there some setting that can be tweaked for this?

Thanks in advance,
  Marc Baaden
