First off, I have to wonder exactly what you're trying to achieve here,
since the octet stream that reaches the other end will be the same.

Second, even if you *send* with '8bit', the *first* time it hits an MTA that
doesn't advertise '8bitmime' in the 220 EHLO response, it's going to get
converted to Q-P *anyhow* in case the message isn't 8-bit-clean.

Third, it's possible for your message to be *upconverted* - in fact, that
happened to the post I'm replying to:
