I've used NX too.  But, I only use it for applications which require 
it, and then only when required.  I like a lot about it.  But, it 
reduces the amount of screen useful to me.

It looks like the reconfiguration of msec on my system to disallow 
unauthenticated X sessions, even local ones, was enough to solve the 
problem.
