the prefs are spread out over three pages (editor support, simple
editor and i-spell) - and indeed "spell program" (on the simple editor page)
doesn't have sufficient documentation attached.

(sorry, but using xhost in this century is Just Plain Wrong. xauthority 
works fine. but let's not digress from the ispell issue at hand.)

but your point re the plethora/overlap/inconsistencies of spelling-related 
prefs is valid; i'll update the docs on the preferences pages and try to 
consolidate the settings on one page. (the changes will end up in the 
debian exmh package as well as the upstream cvs.)
