I use fetchmail to check for new mail every few minutes, and then suck it down
down from an imap server.  That then ends up feeding it to procmail and thence
to rcvstore.

Not perfect as a general solution, but it works just fine for me.  (And I'd have a hard
time moving away from that solution, my .procmailrc is somewhere north of
900 lines)
