I installed http://openwebmail.org/ on my Sendmail + Apache + FreeBSD
server.  Works fine from Firefox from MS PCs or Unix, no ssh or X
needed. A friend finds webmail OK with her small Android device,
but I find that Android device too small/ fiddly.

I use my webmail address for little but travel tickets etc, works
fine with MIME. I've not tried to achieve full home functionality,
eg smtp, exmh, procmail, nmh, 100 sub directories etc. For that I'd

says openwebmail offers POP3 (but then so do any number of other
clients, +IMAP too).

Whatever solution you go for (& I too will also be interested
to read people's reccomendations) you might also want to put up an
openwebmail server, if only as fallback/ alternate.
