Weird message highlighting behavior in exmh 2.8.0 + CVS tip

I just updated to 2.8.0, after having stuck with 2.5 for an unreasonable
number of years.  There are definitely some things that are better, but
I'm noticing something that seems like an annoying bug: immediately after
an Inc command, the first new message in a folder is always highlighted in
the FTOC window, even if it's not selected.  Sometimes it acts like that
message is selected along with the previously-selected message(s), but
I've also seen at least one case where it seemed to have totally forgotten
that it highlighted that line at all --- the highlight remained there even
after clicking on other messages.  In case it matters, I use multidrop inc
mode.

I tried pulling down CVS tip from sourceforge (that is still the master
sources no?) but it's no better.

Has anyone else seen this, or have an idea what might cause it?  I'm
willing to go digging for the cause, but I've never studied the exmh
sources, so some tips about where to look would be helpful.
