What I  actually ended up doing  was simply running Exmh  under Tcl/Wish
8.4 because the fonts in 8.5 are simply horrible (view full size):

I spent  hours trying to  find a  font that looked  as nice as  what 8.4
produced (no font  selected actually) and I just couldn't  find one that
matched. So in  the end, I'll stick  with 8.4.

Thanks for the follow up regarding fixing Exmh's source patch.
