It seems weird that your Comcast modem change would cause exmh to
misbehave, unless you're doing something like display exmh via remote
X windows over the Internet.

Okay, I have ONE random suggestion.  Maybe you were getting a font
that depended on talking to a font server based on your local hostname,
and now your local hostname has changed (the fonts used by the scan display
might be different than the rest of exmh, since they're fixed width).

It occurs to me that maybe check to see if basic nmh stuff works,
like "scan" and "show".  If those don't work, work on solving that.
If they DO work ... well, I have no idea there (except the above one).
