Ouch, I totally misunderstood here.  Ben Reser was actually waiting for 
more votes and inertia from other developers;  he never objected to the 
idea.  I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Ben Reser and I just chatted;  he's going to release a 1.1.3 today 
which is nothing more than the 1.1.2 tag + the patch to make perl 
bindings compile.
