If I type 'svn mkdir' then I get the same output as if I type 'svn help mkdir'... So isn't svn already assuming 'help' when arguments are required, but none given?

(same for svn merge, but didn't bother to check all commands)

So it would rather seem that typing just 'svn' is the exception as it only tells you to type 'svn help' for help (and I find that absolutely acceptable behaviour).

So I don't know the original posters original question, but I don't see the problem here? Doesn't SVN already do what he wanted?

It doesn't matter, it *still* contravenes the "Do not display usage on 
error"
 philosophy.

Your proposed change goes against the dominant design philosophy of the 
Subversion CLI - a philosophy that I for one have no interest whatsoever in 
changing.
