I filed this issue yesterday evening under nr. 2485, after a discussion with one
of the svn developers. The description of that issue contains a more detailed
analysis of the root cause.

As a matter of fact yes they are also case insensitive on Unix, so the situation
you describe is indeed part of the issue! ( good thinking! ).
