I feel you keep missing the point! Look on your server there are NO directories "trunk/tags/branches"! The '"directory" word and the phrase "cheap copies" may not have been the best terms for the designers to use but those functions are only managing hierarchical names in a database structure!! NO REAL DIRECTORIES! The 'directory' terms were just a common metaphor that makes a very powerful tagging system easy to understand. If any thing I would suggest some interface scripts that change the phrasing form 'copy' to 'tag' in your command line options. It will me more confusion but will address you concern that SVN uses the word 'directory' to mean 'more powerful hierarchical tags'. If SVN created all those 'directories' on my server would agree with your arguments, but it does not! Thanks! SVN developers I LOVE the "cheap copy" "directories" metaphor as a way to got more powerful tags and other of the other half dozen or so systems I have lived with!
