How does this fix Kevin's core problem, which is that his list files are 
not writable by his web user?  It could just be the beer talking, but it 
doesn't seem like it does.

No it isn't, not really.  You're just doing the same thing in a slightly 
different way.

That can be fixed fairly easily, though.

Kevin, if you really want to do this, just write the pending subscription 
addresses to a text file somewhere on the system, then have a cron job with 
appropriate privileges go through every once and a while and subscribe the 
addresses.

Charles is right, though - this is probably a really, really Bad 
Idea.  Make sure that your client understands what he's asking you to do, 
that you object to it, and that you're only doing it because he's 
overriding your professional advice to find another solution.
