Two good guesses so far, which should be fairly easy to prove/disprove with a little more information from the ranting user. Did he get the confirmation? Did he reply to it? One more guess. Maybe he's sending the unsub request from an address different from the one he's subscribed with. That's a fairly common occurrence. Sometimes users switch addresses and forward their old one to their new one, so list messages getting sent to his old address end up in his new mailbox, but unsubs sent from the new address don't work. Or sometimes ISPs have aliases for their mail servers, like isp.com and mail.isp.com, which end up in the same place. Users configure their client with one address, subscribe to a list, then futz around with their email client and start using a different address. Again, a little more info from the ranting user could tell whether this was the case. Did he send an unsub, get a confirmation, reply to it, and then receive a message telling him he wasn't subscribed?
