I think you indicated the solution below, didn't you? 1. Use the indices, but never show the entries to the user 2. When it comes to show subject/author to the user, obtain the=20 decodable/displayable string from the message itself I think this is how my altered copy of ezmlm-www does it. It does some oth= er=20 things you're still trying to implement...let me know if you want a copy to= =20 get a jump-start.
